Lightning monitoring system keeps satellite launch on schedule


Lightning at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station nearly scrubbed the scheduled launch of the CYGNSS satellites from a Pegasus rocket carried aloft by a jet aircraft. The mission countdown was able to proceed when data from a lightning surveillance system proved that the launch vehicle and its payload were not damaged by the electrical storm.
