Latest Developments in Biophilic Design to be Presented at the Grey to Green Conference in Toronto, August 25th, 2014

TORONTO, ON, July 7, 2014 – Green Roofs for Healthy Cities is pleased to announce Bill Browning, a world leader on biophilic design, will be a keynote speaker at the Grey to Green Conference. Mr. Browning will be presenting his latest research findings on the neuroscience behind biophilic design and how this translates into improved employee health and productivity.

Mr. Browning is a principal at Terrapin Bright Green, a strategic consulting firm that crafts high-performance environmental strategies for clients such as Interface, Google and the National Geographic Society.

Over the past two years, Terrapin Bright Green has been working to identify the science behind designing buildings with nature. This research has profound implications for building and landscape design and Mr. Browning will be sharing his findings at Grey to Green

According to World Health Organization (WHO), by 2030, 6 out of every 10 people will live in a city.  The term biophlia suggests human beings have a biologically innate connection to nature and research shows when our exposure to nature is removed from our environment, problems such as depression, obesity, and attention deficit disorders occurs. Biophilic Design is an emerging practice that results in healthier and more productive buildings and communities.

The Grey to Green Conference features over 75 expert speakers, local project tours, training courses and important networking opportunities.  As part of the conference, the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) will be running their half-day LEED Site Design and Documentation workshop on best practices for designing and documenting the sustainable sites prerequisites/credits on Tuesday August 26th. This course is focused on how to design landscape and sites so that projects are water efficient and environmentally sustainable, as well as successfully earn LEED credits. Civil engineers and landscape architects on LEED projects will be interested in this course, as well as LEED coordinators and project managers.

The conference is approved for up to 13.5 Continuing Education Units from OAA, LA CES, USGBC/GBCI, AIA CES, BOMI, APLD, and RCI.

For information on the Conference Agenda and Registration visit www.greytogreenconference.org.
